I came across these globes by Wendy Gold of ImagineNations. They are so fun and fantastic! I would love to get a whole cluster of them and display them in a room…I would call it my Wanderlust Room. Only I don’t have any extra rooms – oh well, its nice to dream!
March 20 2011 is officially the first day of spring! So I wanted to celebrate it by having a few friends over for a Tea Party, how lovely would THAT have been. Well, winter wanted to give me one last blow and knocked me out with the most heinous sinus infection ever. EVER! I’ve been out of commission for…um…lets see….SIX days so far!!! How RUDE is that?! In any case my plans will not be thwarted….just postponed. So even though there will be no tea cups clinking this weekend, I would love to share the invites I handed out for the event…
I ordered the saucers from The Vintage Teacup which is like browsing through the most wonderful china shop with no worries of breaking anything! I wanted to do the writing using a pen made specifically for porcelain but I ended up using a paint pen. The drying time for the speciality pen was 24 hours…I didn’t have that kind of time! The place mats I scored at a local thrift shop, I couldn’t believe how perfect they were for the invites. I used an inkjet compatable iron on material on the placement, but if I had to do it over again I would have opted to have the mats screen printed. Overall I really liked how they turned out! I will be sure to post photos of the party when it happens…
OK it really is no secret that I love paper and stationery and writing and drawing…I came across downstairsDesigns on Etsy and fell in love with all the different clutches she has to offer. I love the possibilities…a place to keep my daily to-do lists, drawing supplies for the kiddos, home for my idea/sketch book…I need one of these! They come in soooooo many different colors as well as coordinating iPhone pouches. She also offers the option to buy in packs of 7 for gifts, clever!
For teachers appreciation week at my son’s school, I wanted to do something personal and meaningful. I love drinking Chai in one of my ‘me moments’ and thought that would be a great gift to share with his teachers. I make chai the traditional way – freshly ground spices added to a simmering pot of milk and black tea leaves. For the gifts I wanted a no fuss way to make it. I adapted my recipe from the many you can find on the web (search: Concentrated Chai).
For each 14 oz can of sweetened condensed milk: add 1 teaspoon ground cardamom, 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon and 1/4 ground clove. Gently warm in a pot for 10 minutes (keep it moving, stir often to avoid burning). Turn off the heat and throw in a dash of good quality vanilla extract. After it cools down, pour into a jar and refrigerate overnight. The next day add 2 heaping teaspoons to a cup of strong black tea and Enjoy! It’ll keep for 2 weeks refrigerated…if it lasts that long!
